Female Beefeater to guard Tower !!

Dear God !!! The whole world's going to hell in a handcart !!!

For the first time in their 522 year history, there will be a female Beefeater ! (Note: the picture above is not her, just the only image I could find at short notice !)

Actually, good bloody luck to her. I hope she has a great time. Let's be honest, the Yeomanry is more symbolic than functional, although I fully respect their job and position. As a spokeswoman says, her appointment will be less rare as more women carve out long term careers in the armed forces. To qualify for selection a candidate "must have served a minimum of 22 years in the forces as well as boast a long service and good conduct medal". It's even more of an achievement when you realise there are only ever 35 serving members of The Yeoman Warder of Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress the Tower of London, and Members of the Sovereign's Body Guard of the Yeoman Guard Extraordinary !

Good on ya lass :)
